A multi talented individual who made a name for himself in almost all fields of entertainment, Sway Calloway is an American rapper, reporter, interviewer, and executive producer for MTV News. He is also a renowned DJ, RJ and host of the radio show, The Wake Up Show, alongwith King Tech. His recent moment of glory was the interview with Eminem he did after the release of the surprise album Kamikaze.

Sway was born in Oakland, California on August 23, 1970. He became famous in the bay area while in high school as a rapper and emcee specifically in San Francisco.

He used to regularly perform at the club, Pier 39. But soon he and his DJ, King Tech, caught everyone’s ears and were performing at multiple clubs all through the bay. They ended up releasing independent albums that lead to a deal with Giant Records which birthed the album Concrete Jungle. Following this album, they both got offered the chance to create and host their own radio show at KMEL in the San Francisco Bay Area.
At KMEL, Sway and King created the show, “The Wake Up Show”, where they interviewed popular and upcoming hip hop artists from the Bay Area. It became the home ground for multiple rappers like Eminem, Chino XL and Ras Kass. Later Sway and King made another Record deal with Dr. Dre’s new label, Interscope Records. They ended up releasing a hit album under this deal titled “This or That” which reached the top position of 30 on the billboards hip-hop/R&B albums. In 1999, their album was the top album on the heat seekers list.
The next year in 2000, Sway got offered the chance to host and be a reporter for MTV while working for his radio show at KMEL. He took this deal and during this stint he was the host of two shows, namely Total Request Live, where he reported news from the world of hip hop and Direct Effect where he worked on hip hop music videos. This new found fame made The Wake Up Show even more popular and using his deal with MTV as leverage, Sway was able to launch a TV version of the show on the MTV Network.
Following this, Sway and King Tech established their own record label named Bolo Entertainment and released an album under this new label titled “Back to Basic” in the year 2005. Sway has also appeared on the shows The Boondocksin 2005 and on Short Circuits in 2007. Soon after, he launched his morning show, “Sway in the Morning,” that runs on the Eminem owned TV channel, Shady 45.
