P.K. was born to Caribbean immigrant Karl and Maria Subban on May 13, 1989, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Even though his father was a school principal, his family is now known for hockey thanks to him and his two brothers, Jordan and Malcolm who are also professional hockey players.

It is revealed that his father also grew up in Jamaica wanting to play high-level cricket. He began his hockey career with Belleville in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He did a fantastic job helping Belleville to the cup final which they lost to Kitchener Rangers.

Two weeks after his last junior games, he signed an entry-level contract with the Montreal Canadians of NHL but he began the 2009 – 2010 season by Hamilton Bulldogs of AHL. However, he was recalled from Hamilton during the first-round Stanley Cup playoff against Washington Capital.

In 2013, he won the Noris trophy as the NHL’s top defender. Previously, he was a member of Canada’s junior international team and won two world junior championships.
