Monta Ellis is an African- American professional basketball player. He is currently a free agent but has been a prominent player for NBA teams. Monta Ellis has two brothers. He was raised by his mother, Rosa Ellis. They used to live in a poor crime-prone neighbourhood in Georgetown, Jackson. He did his schooling from Lanier High School.

After his schooling, he was declared as 40th overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 2005 NBA Draft held on 28 June. He played 49 games being the part of Golden State Warriors. He averaged 6.8 points, 2.1 rebound and 1.6 assists in 18.1 minutes per game. In the Warriors season finale on 19 April 2006, Ellis scored a second high 27 points as Golden State lost 105-102 to the Utah Jazz. In the 2007 season, he averaged 16.5 points, 4.1assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals helping Warriors return to play-off after 12-year absence. Ellis increased his scorings by 9.7 points from his rookie season making the largest increase in the NBA. Ellis reached double figures in scoring 68 times including 24 of 20 or more points. He was named as the ‘NBA Most improved player’. He ranked 14th in the NBA in field of goal percentage. He also became only the ninth guard in NBA history to shoot 60% from the floor for an entire month in February.
Ellis signed a new contract with golden warriors on 24 July 2008. Unfortunately, he was side-lined for more than three months after suffering from Grade 3 high ankle sprain, a torn deltoid ligament and a syndesmosis disruption of his left ankle. He only played 25 games. Ellis made his comeback debut on 23 January 2009. On April 1, he scored a career-high 42 points to go with nine rebounds and nine assists in a 143-141 overtime win. In 2011-2012 season, he played for multiple teams including GSW and Milwaukee Bucks. In 2012-2013 season for the Milwaukee Bucks, Monta Ellis starred in all 82 games. He was then signed by Dallas Mavericks on 23 July 2013.
He became a free agent on 14 July 2015. He signed contract with Indiana Pacers on July 14 and he starred in 81 games in his first season. His last NBA season was in 2016-2017 with the Indiana Pacers and finished with him scoring 8.5 PPG.
