Taketa and Wayne Brady struck a chord while preparing for a musical show in Hawaii in 1996. Three years later, on April 3, 1999, they were pronounced man and wife. Brady had previously been married to Columbian musician Diana Lasso from 1993 to 1995. But this being her first marriage, Taketa was determined not to play second fiddle to Lasso. On February 3, 2003, Taketa gave birth to her daughter Maile Masako Brady.
However, fate had different ideas. What started off on a good note did not last long. Nine years after they tied the nuptial knot, Taketa and Brady decided to call it quits and got divorced on April 14, 2008 on grounds of irreconcilable differences.
