Emeril John Lagassé is a restaurateur, American celebrity chef, television personality, and National Best Recipe award winner for his ‘Turkey and Hot Sausage Chili’ recipe in the year 2003, and cookbook author. He was born on 15th October 1959 in Fall River, Massachusetts in the United States. His father Emeril John Lagassé Jr. who was to a French-Canadian and Hilda Medeiros who was Portuguese.

Lagasse in his teenager days has worked in a Portuguese bakery where he discovered his talent for cooking and thus enrolled himself in a culinary arts program at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School. He is James Beard Award winner in his region popularly known for his excellent style of cooking Creole and Cajun cuisine and also for his self-developed “New Orleans” style.
Emeril Lagasse has appeared on a wide variety of TV shows based on cooking, including the Food Network shows which have been the longest-running cooking show. He has also been a part of Emeril Live and Essence of Emeril. On all of these shows, he pioneered several catchphrases which he has been associated with, including “Kick it up a notch!” and “Bam!”
In 1990 he opened Emerils in New Orleans. It was awarded as the “Restaurant of the Year” in Esquire magazine the same year and has also been a recipient of the Wine Spectator Grand Award since the year 1999. Many of the restaurants, as well as corporate offices of Emeril, are located in the Emeril’s Homebase, which is in New Orleans.
Lagasse created several special recipes in August 2006 for the International Space Station as part of NASA’s effort to improve the quality of the food supply for astronauts. Lagasse’s recipe was selected in the hopes that the spicier food would offset the tendency of microgravity to deaden flavours.
At present Lagasse is the executive chef and proprietor of thirteen restaurants in New Orleans, Las Vegas, Orlando, and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
