Charlotte Emma Aitchison is popularly known by her stage name Charli XCX, which was coined from her user-id on MSN Messenger. A born music talent, she has strong passion for music which has resulted in the success she has recorded in the entertainment industry. Charlie started composing songs when she was just fourteen years old. According to her, she drew inspirations from popular music icons Britney Spears and Spice Girls. Charlie was born in Cambridge, England, on the 2nd August 1992 to Jon and Shameera Aitchison. Shameera Aitchison was born in Kampala, Uganda in 1958, she worked as a nurse in Gujarati Indian and a flight attendant. Jon Aitchison, on the other hand, a Scottish man worked as a music promoter and an entrepreneur.

Charlie attended Bishop’s Stortford College, Hertfordshire, England, as she grew up in Start Hill, Essex which is close to the town of Bishop’s Stortford. At a young age, Charlie always dreamt about being a music star. She didn’t just dream, she started writing songs. Some of the first songs she wrote was Fish and Chip Shop, a song about going on a date to a fish and chips shop.The next song she wrote had similar melody to the Star Wars Death March, I want To be Darth Vader.

Charli recorded her first album with the loan she got from her parents, and titled it 14, in 2008. The album didn’t get as much publicity as she decided though. Later that year, she released two single under Orgy music titled Franchesckaar and double A-side “Emelline”/”Art Bitch”. She also posted some of her music and several demos from the album on her official page on Myspace. The songs were so hilarious and attracted sponsors from East London who had several illegal businesses. Not minding her sponsors, her parents kept advocating for their daughter’s career. They accompanied her to her various concerts. Charli began to gain popularity and secured a recording contract in 2010 with Asylum Records. Albeit, when she was 18 years she decided to move to London to get a degree on UCL’s Slade School. Unfortunately, she dropped out of school during as a sophomore in school.

Around April 2013, she introduced her major album titled True Romance. The album turned out great as it ranked no. 85 on the UK albums chart, no. 11 on Australia Aria Hitseekers Chart, and bagged up number 5 on the USA Heatseekers Albums Chart. She released a single Super Love in late 2013, while in 2014 she introduced another single titled Boom Clap, derived from the movie, The Fault in Our Stars. The song became a huge success internationally, as it ranked number eight number 8 on the US Billboard HOT 100, landed number 6 on the UK single chart and amongst the top 10 in countries such as Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.

In 2014, Charli included Boom Clap in her second album, titled, Sucker. Sucker was also a major hit, as it brought forth Doing it which was a top 10 UK single, where she featured Rita Ora, an English singer and a song writer like herself; and Break the Rules which was among the top 40 on UK Single. Charli released her third album in 2019. She has been featured on couple of international thriving singles, I Love it, from Icona pop song, landed amongst the top 10 in several countries such as Canada, US, Germany and Ireland, while second , Fancy, by Iggy Azalea’s breaksong; the song was included in the US Billboard top 100 and top 10 in various European countries.

Charli XCX seems to have colour synesthesia, according to her, she sees music in colours. She likes music that are black, pink, purple or red, but despise music that are yellow, green or brown. She sees herself as a feminist, which made her wrong a song titled Body of my Own, the song title is considered as a feminist statement.
