Lawrence Ari Fleischer (60) is a former United States Press Secretary and a US Communications Director. Fleischer was born in Pound Ridge, New York on October 13, 1960 and is a Libra.

His parents are Martha and Alan A. Fleischer who were activist Democrats. His mother was a database co-ordinator, and his father was owner of an executive recruiting company. He is Jewish with Hungarian ancestry. His mother had escaped the Holocaust although she lost many of her family to it. He has a brother, Michael Fleischer.

He spent his childhood growing up in New York and attended the Fox Lane High School in Bedford. He then studied and graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont in 1982.

He started his career as a press secretary in 1982 working for New York Congressional candidate Jim Fossel. He then went on to serve as the press secretary for Congressman Norman Lent in the mid 80’s.


He later became the field director for the Republican Congressional Committee and has served Senators Elizabeth Dole and Pete Domenici (from 1989 to 1994). After this in 1994, Fleischer served as the senior communications advisor and spokesman for the Bush-Cheney presidential campaign and communications director for the House Ways and Means Committee.

He is most famous for serving as the press secretary for President George W. Bush from 2001-2003 delivered the daily White House briefings during this period. His first appearance on C-SPAN, was a 1997 Congressional News Conference as a Director for Communications in the Ways and Means. He was the press secretary of the US administration during the controversial presidential recount, “9/11 attacks, the start of the US-Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Using his position as the press secretary in the Bush administration, Fleischer was a rabid supporter for the Invasion of Iraq. He resigned in 2003 from his position. He was well known for his attacks on anyone who dared to criticise the Bush administration, even going so far as to warn detractors to watch what they say and watch what they do and to accept the administrations version of events .

He was a central figure in the “Valerie Plame-CIA leak case”, when upon receiving an immunity agreement he testified that Valarie Plame was a spy and covert CIA agent who had infiltrated the Bush administration. Ari Fleischer made numerously exaggerated and misleading claims about Iraq and lead up to the Iraq War. In 2019 he claimed he and George Bush reported the assessments for the Intelligence community and secured over 400 missiles and rockets containing Chemical weapons in Iraq.
In 2005, Fleischer published “Taking Heat: The President, the Press and My Years in the White House”, a memoir, which was not well received by the critics, but was a New York Times best-selling book. Fleischer has mentioned that he was a conservative Democrat who is now a Republican.

After the 2012 Presidential election, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus appointed Fleischer as co-chair of the RNC’s Growth and Opportunity Project.

He worked as a consultant for Fox News and was a regular contributor to CNN till 2017. Currently he owns and is the president of a media company called Ari Fleischer Communications and provides services as a media consultant for various corporations like NFL, Bowl Championship Series, and other famous personalities like the former Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper, golfer Tiger Woods and the Green Bay Packers.

Fleischer married Rebecca Davis, who was an assistant from the Office of Management and Budget in 2002 , and 15 years his junior and a Christian, in Indianapolis. He has two children, a son and a daughter. He currently lives with his wife and 2 children in Westchester County, New York. His daughter is Sarah Fleischer born in 2004. He loves baseball and was seen playing baseball with President Bush during his tenure as the press secretary and is a member of the Ridgefield Rockers, a two-time champion of the President’s cup.
