Andrew Yang was born on 13 January 1975 in Schenectady, New York. He graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor in Arts in Economics. He then went on to become a Juris Doctor after passing Columbia Law School in 1999. He is an entrepreneur, lawyer, and philanthropist.

After graduating from law school, Yang joined Davis Polk & Wardwell as a corporate attorney. He then left the firm in 2000 to join his office mate in founding Stargiving.com, a website designed for celebrity-affiliated philanthropic fundraising. He then worked for the healthcare industry from 2002 to 2005. After working for 4 years in this industry, he joined his friend at a small test preparation company, Manhattan Prep. He served as the CEO of Manhattan Prep. and under his leadership, the company expanded from five to 69 locations and was soon acquired by Kalpan, Inc in December 2009. After the company was acquired by Kalpan, Inc, Yang resigned and went on to find a non-profit fellowship program Venture For America which was launched in 2011. It is a program that sends college graduates to work for the startups which are struggling from the financial crisis.
According to Andrew Yang, Venture For America Alums has created more than 2,500 jobs in cities all around America. In 2012, Andrew Yang received a Champion Of Change award from the Obama White House. He was also named in the most creative people in business.
