After Head injury, Matt admitted to the hospital where doctors used to nine staples to close the wound. This was the second stint in rehab for Matt, who completed six months of inpatient and outpatient treatment this past January. According to the 36-year-old, he started drinking a few years ago after his boat broke down near Juneau, Alaska.

By March 2019, things were becoming good for Matt. He posted a photo to Instagram of a sobriety coin from the Betty Ford Center for addiction and revealed to his followers that after several months clean,

Fans have not seen Matt on Alaskan Bush People since season 8, as the Discovery star was dealing with his substance abuse issues while the show filmed its ninth and tenth seasons.
